Primary School Art
As a former teacher, I love to work with children especially Primary school children. As a committed Christian I try to help children engage creatively with prayer and the scriptures through illuminated calligraphy.
This helps them appreciate that they need to take their time and develop a sense of stillness as they go through the process of design and illumination.
I have worked with three primary schools so far, St John Vianney RC primary school in Hartlepool, St Bernadette’s RC primary in Wallsend and Our Lady and St Anne’s RC primary in Sunderland.
The gallery shows some of the work that children have created in three half day/ full day sessions.
Terry’s work with our Year 5 class has made a significant difference to our Art topic of ‘Illuminated Manuscripts’. We’ve seen a weighty improvement in the skills of the children and they are now fully aware of the skills required to achieve a full illuminated page.
Creating our own illuminated pages was a daunting task for us, however Terry guided us through the whole process. He ensured that all resources and guides were readily available and he fully engaged with the whole class throughout every session.
Our children are eager to work with Terry again!
