To quote, Patricia Lovett, in her work about the ‘Art and History of Calligraphy’ the Lindisfarne Gospels are a ‘glorious riot of intertwining decorations and colour’. Such is art!

The art of producing the written word provides beauty and rhythm by meticulous attention to that which is most pleasing upon the visual and mental eye. And so, I write that you may rejoice and your joy be made full. And know this, as the sailor welcomes the harbour so the scribe, the final line.
