Lizzy Consterdine
Worked with us on 31st may to explore colour through the medium of ink on paper. Lizzy is an Art teacher and working artist.
She began studying Fine Art in 2009 at Leeds Metropolitan University. Her practice was heavily influenced by sculptures (made from paper) and drawings. As an artist she was particularly interested in process art and textured paintings/drawings and became hugely inspired by artists such as Pollock, Kiefer and Serra. During her time at Leeds she was involved in many different group exhibitions where most of her work would be made on site, after having seeing the space and the surroundings.
After graduating from Leeds, Lizzy decided she wanted to carry on her studies and progress onto a MA Fine Art course at Northumbria University. Her practice with paper sculptures and drawings developed and it allowed her to pinpoint the key features in her artwork. She explored transformative materials in drawing and how notions of materiality can progress ideas. She has been involved in different group exhibitions around the country including Brick Lane, London, Baltic 39 and Hatton Gallery.
After graduating from Northumbria she was offered a Graduate Fellowship at Paper Studio Northumbria and was given use of a studio space and access to the university facilities. She worked closely with the undergraduates providing workshops and seminars on her current practice and relevant topics relating to her work. She was then given the opportunity to show some work at Gallery North exhibition in Northumbria University.
She is now working at a school in Gateshead but continue with Her art outside of work. She has been commissioned for several different art works after graduating and is currently exploring alcohol inks on yupo paper as well as her textured mixed media paintings. She has always been very interested in textures and mark making within painting, drawing and sculpture and has found she can create the texture she wants within the alcohol inks.
